Originally a Marine Engineer by trade – travelling the World on tankers, bulk carriers and container vessels – Eric is the face behind the FISH Safety Foundation. Following studies in Engineering and Industrial Psychology, he has spent the last 20+ years as a safety professional, both as a manager, and as an independent consultant, specialising in the development and implementation of Safety Management Systems. An accomplished communicator, he’s conducted training workshops and seminars for a wide spectrum of industries – ranging from Off-shore Diamond Mining and Nuclear Power to Rail and Commercial Fishing – in many parts of the world, including New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada, as well as in South Africa and Namibia.
He is also recognised as a pragmatic Human Factors specialist, in particular, focussing on safety culture promotion, risk-taking behaviour, and the risk / human interface. He regularly presents papers at conferences in these disciplines.
Eric has been active in the maritime industry since 1993, having established the Maritime Division of an international safety consultancy group before starting Pro-Safe Marine in 1997, and has been involved in the development of Codes of Practice, fatal accident investigation and a full range of training and consultancy services to the Industry. Aware of the urgent need for safety improvements within the Industry, much of his effort and time has been directed towards Commercial Fishing. Through years of work, research and investigations, he has developed the crewSAFE Safety Management System.
Eric has now turned his attention to further developing and promoting the FISH Safety Foundation.

With a background in Human Resources, Amy comes to the FISH Safety Foundation with fresh eyes!
Originally from the UK, Amy has had a varied career across several industries including airlines and telecommunications.
Amy will head up the social media campaign for the Foundation and assist the team with the development of the organisation. She is passionate about technology and how it can be used to make the world a safer place.
Having grown up observing her Dads constant talks of ‘safety at sea,’ the values behind the FISH Safety Foundation have been firmly entrenched within Sam from a young age.
After completing studies in Exercise Science after high school, Sam got a hit by the travel bug and began working as a personal trainer on a cruise ship based in Puerto Rico. It was here that she realised that she did in fact, share her father’s love of the ocean. Unfortunately her adventures where cut short when she suffered an injury and returned home to New Zealand, and began working in the Natural Health sector. The next few years were spent developing her management and administration skills, and continuing her studies into health and wellness, this time with a holistic focus.
Now, after a short hiatus to have children, Sam has joined forces with Eric to allow for the further development of the Foundation. She plans to direct her knowledge towards new industry specific research – in an effort to promote a better understanding of the long term effects of life at sea. Sam lives on the Kapiti Coast, New Zealand with her partner and two young sons, Max and Zac.
